In July, a team of global prayer leaders gathered from all over the world to pray for leaders at the G8 Summit underway in L’Aquila, Italy. Intercessors from multiple Christian organizations united for three days of worship and prayer in northern Italy to seek God’s purposes for the nations. While the leaders of the eight strongest democracies along with representatives from the European Union discussed global warming, economics, and other international issues, this team of intercessors asked the Lord to “bless the kings of the nations that they might be a blessing to the nations,” commented team member Graham Wells.
Wells, the prayer leader for Operation Mobilization-USA, briefly explained the purpose of the Prayer Summit: “We believe that according to 1 Timothy 2 we are called to pray earnestly for those in authority over us... We pray into their agenda asking the Sovereign Lord to rule and reign in the affairs of man, executing justice, righteousness and truth.” The Prayer Summit met at OM Italy’s Forterocca Conference Center in the Piedmont village of Bobbio Pellice. While the nation’s leaders took their place on the world’s stage, the summit intercessors were praying in an upper room at Forterocca (meaning “fortress” or “solid rock”) for the leaders. The intercessors followed the agenda of the G8 summit and focused their prayer on the topics and decisions as they arose. Summit team leader, Ian Cole, from World Prayer Center in the UK explained that this prayer team was joined by tens of thousands of intercessors from different nations around the globe who were watching the G8 proceedings closely as well: “As the kings of the earth flew into L’Aquila Italy to begin their meetings, we met to praise and lift up the name of the King of Kings! Tucked away in a corner of Italy we were able to follow via live Internet feed, the proceedings and agenda of these leaders and pray into their discussions. With a table set up in the middle of the prayer room with the flags, pictures and names of each of the leaders in the order they are seated in L’Aquila, we were able to ask God to give us the things to pray for, His heart for the disadvantaged, and to pray His will into the world economic situation and other Global issues.” OM Italy was proud to host this G8 Prayer Summit at Forterocca. It is exciting to see how God is using Forterocca as a place for ministry of all types. We look forward to more and more ministry events like this in the future. For the shields of the earth belong unto God; He is greatly exalted. Psalm 47:9 |
